Introduction to the NCRAD Biospecimens Online Catalog

Monday, November 18, 2019,
4-5pm ET (1-2pm PT)

The goal of this webinar is to introduce investigators to the NCRAD (National Centralized Repository for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias) online catalog system. This webinar may be of particular interest to aging researchers who want to add Alzheimer’s research to their research efforts.

NCRAD provides researchers with protocols and training for sample collection. This has allowed NCRAD to uniformly bank samples from single site studies, to the national network of NIA-funded Alzheimer Disease Centers (ADCs), as well as large international studies such as the Alzheimer Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).

Unique collections such as the 90+ study and the FTD studies ARTFL, LEFFTDS and 4RTNI-2 are also banked at NCRAD. In addition, NCRAD works closely with several closed studies, making samples from unique cohorts, such as the Indianapolis-Ibadan Dementia Study, available to researchers worldwide.

This comprehensive approach has allowed NCRAD to bank samples from over 68,000 individuals, including DNA, plasma, serum, RNA, CSF, cell lines and brain tissue. The online biospecimen catalogs can be queried by approved investigators to explore the range of biospecimens available at NCRAD for research use.

Led by Tatiana Foroud, Ph.D., Principal Investigator of NCRAD and Chair of the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University and Chris Hobbick, IT principal systems administrator and database manager for NCRAD, this webinar will provide a live demonstration of the NCRAD catalog system for the ADC cohort. The demonstration will walk through the process of selecting samples for a request as well as describing how sample data is linked to other relevant datasets.

The free, one-hour webinar will explore:
• How to request a login to the NCRAD online catalog system and complete the Data Agreement
• How to select fields to include in sample selection
• How to filter on relevant data elements
• How to download selected samples and data to include with a sample request
• How to link an outside dataset to the NCRAD online catalog

A Q & A will follow.
